Juventus Land Guglielmo Vicario on Loan From Tottenham as Emi Martinez Plan B

Juventus have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent, sources have told ESPN.

The deal marks a Serie A homecoming for the 29-year-old Italian, who left Empoli for Tottenham three years ago and has since made 117 appearances for the north London club.

According to reports in Italy, including IlBianconero and Sky Italia, Vicario has already landed in Turin to undergo his medical at J Medical, with his agent working to get the paperwork finalised before Juve's season opener.

The structure of the deal has been outlined slightly differently across outlets, but the shape is consistent: no loan fee is due up front, with Juventus covering Vicario's full season salary, while the buy option sits in the region of £8.5m–£8.6m (roughly €8m-€10m), with some reports suggesting additional add-ons on top.

Vicario's move to Turin comes after a whirlwind final week of the transfer window for Juventus, who had spent much of the summer chasing alternatives before settling on the Tottenham stopper.

The Bianconeri were previously locked in talks over Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, but the pursuit collapsed after Villa refused to lower their asking price. Villa have since agreed a deal of their own to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma, closing the door on any late twist involving Martinez.

Juventus had also monitored Suzuki directly earlier in the window, contingent on a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain that ultimately stalled — leaving Vicario as the club's clearest route to reinforcing the goalkeeping position before deadline.

For Tottenham, the exit has been on the cards for some time. New head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already confirmed that Antonín Kinsky will be his first-choice goalkeeper this season, with Martin Dúbravka, signed from Burnley, brought in as back-up. Vicario had fallen behind Kinsky in the pecking order even before De Zerbi's arrival, following a difficult 2025–26 campaign.

Spurs have overhauled much of their squad this summer, with departures including Cristian Romero (Atlético Madrid), Djed Spence (Inter Milan), Radu Dragusin (Fiorentina), Yves Bissouma (released), Luka Vuskovic (Brighton) and Manor Solomon (West Ham), alongside incoming additions such as Sandro Tonali, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Mateus Fernandes as part of a broader rebuild.

In Turin, Vicario's arrival is expected to reshape the goalkeeping pecking order. Current No. 1 Michele Di Gregorio now faces an uncertain future, with reports suggesting he has already been offered to Marseille and other European clubs on loan.

Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has long prioritised a goalkeeper comfortable playing out from the back — a trait Vicario showed regularly during his early Tottenham years, even if his form dipped toward the end of his time in London. The club's staff believe a return to Serie A's tactical environment could help him rediscover that level.

With his medical underway and the move now a matter of formalities, Vicario is on track to become Juventus's latest goalkeeping gamble — a fresh start in familiar surroundings, and Turin's answer to a goalkeeping search that took most of the summer to resolve.
